Workday Change
Effective August 15, exempt staff employees will no longer need to submit their monthly timesheet for an Exception Pay – Holiday time block.
The WorkLion Management Office (WMO) has reconfigured the Exception Pay – Holiday time block to no longer populate on timesheets. Previously, this occurred when an employee submitted time worked or a time off request during the same week as a Penn State holiday.
The process for requesting time off around University holidays will now be no different from requesting time off at any other point during the year.
There are, however, two important items to note:
- Impact to Previous Pay Periods – If there are any changes to a previous timesheet where the Exception Pay - Holiday time block was already approved, the employee would need to resubmit their timesheet for approval.
- Unsubmitted, Future Exception Pay Holiday – Time Blocks – The WMO will be removing any unsubmitted Exception Pay – Holiday time blocks on employee’s behalf.

Questions regarding holiday eligibility should be directed to your manager or Human Resource Consultant.
Spotted Lanterfly
The Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive insect that has spread throughout southeastern Pennsylvania since its discovery in Berks County in 2014. This insect has the potential to greatly impact agricultural crops in Pennsylvania including grapes, hops, and hardwoods.
To help slow the spread of the SLF, on May 26, 2018 the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture implemented an Order of Quarantine for the Spotted Lanternfly (Quarantine). The order applies to all businesses that travel within, into, or out of the Quarantine Zone, including Penn State.
Penn State Environmental Health and Safety has created the Procedures for Penn State Implementation of the Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine Requirements to help Penn State comply with the Quarantine. If you would like more in-depth information on the Spotted Lanternfly please visit the Environmental Health and Safety website or go to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture website.
